Kayla Preuss: Terminal Stupidity

This isn't exactly news any more, but having run across a few posts on the demise of Kayla Preuss, in which her friends blast the heartless meanies who note that her passing, caused by drunk text-messaging while speeding, was rather a stupid way to go. But the problem with their complaints is that Kayla Preuss did really, truly die in a very stupid way. The Redlands, California 16 year-old's phone records showed that she had been texting in the moments leading up to the car crash that killed her. Her phone was found still flipped open on the floorboard of her car. Her mother is quoted as saying that she hopes others will learn from this example. It is, in this vein, constructive to point out that text messaging while drunk driving and speeding isn't a good idea. She was an idiot. That was what caused her death. Please, for the rest of you: don't text message while driving. It's moronic.
